One-time capital of the Baekje Kingdom, Gongju's illustrious past has been revived since the discovery of a royal tomb here. This archaeological treasure, boasting some 3 000 artefacts, is reason enough for most visitors to come to the city, which today peacefully straddles the Geum River.
