The mosque in Almonaster la Real, enclosed within fortified walls, is one of the rare examples of Caliphate architecture to have survived in the area (dating from the 10C when Andalucía was ruled by the Caliphate in Córdoba). Its reddish walls built against the rock seem to have withstood the passage of time with complete serenity. Beside the mosque stands an unusual bullring.
