Almuñécar : Michelin's recommendations
The Romans called this old Phoenician site Sexi Firmun Julium. The current name comes from the Arabic Hins-al-Monacar (fortress town), referring to its strategic position on top of a hill. The town is situated in the fertile valley of the River Verde, protected from the cold by the mountain range that runs along the coast, and warmed by winds from North Africa. Its main economic activities are tourism and market gardening (under plastic) all the way along the coast.
