The high steeple of the Church of St Mary stands on this square which is the heart of the old part of Arcos. It is also home to the town hall, the parador, set in the former residence of the corregidor (justice official), as well as the (private) château. To the west, a terrace overlooks the valley and gives some marvellous views over the river and the Church of St Peter.
