Baza : Michelin's recommendations
The origins of the town go back to the 4C BC, when the inhabitants of Bastetania (early Hispania people) settled near the current town, on the site of Basti, where the famous Lady of Baza is now on show. The Arabs founded the town of Madinat Bastha here and occupied it from 713-1489. The expulsion of the Morisques (late 16C) marked the start of a long period of decline. Today, Baza is suffering the consequences of a long process of de-industrialisation.
