The reserve is an extension of the Parque Natural de las Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas. It has been heavily deforested over the years to provide firewood for the glassworks at Castril. The ensuing erosion has resulted in spectacular relief. You can explore the reserve on foot (about 2hr); take the path that leads off from the lower part of Castril and runs beside the river.
