Heading south from Murcia, Huércal Overa is the first town you come to in Andalucía. Dominated by the square tower of its ruined Moorish castle, the town comes alive during Holy Week, celebrated with great splendour by the three local brotherhoods - the white, purple and black penitents. The parish church dates from the 18C.
