This gigantic open-cast mine is over 1 000m long, 900m wide and 350m deep. A platform built on its sides commands dramatic plunging views into the crater, which is traversed by a variety of seams and divided into terraces that reveal the terrain's structure. Nearby, mining equipment separates the impurities from the ferric oxide (limonite), before it is carried away in enormous trucks transporting nearly 200 tons apiece.
