A large proportion of the English Hospital has been given over to the history of mining and metallurgy. It is home to early 20C locomotives and to the famous Maharajah's Wagon, a marvel of luxury built in Birmingham for a trip that Queen Victoria of England was to make to India. The museum also owns a fine collection of archaeological artefacts, some of which date back to the Bronze Age and the early days of metallurgy. In the basement is a reconstitution of a Roman mine.
