Motril : Michelin's recommendations
Situated 27km east of Almuñécar, Motril is now the most populous town on the Costa Tropical. Once a small village and residence of the mother of Boabdil, the last Moorish king of Granada, Motril is now known as “Little Cuba” thanks to its plantations of sugar cane which carpet the landscape. Playa del Poniente, a beach 4km to the southwest, is the main attraction in this industrious town, which produces a well-known rum.
