Situated 29km from Huelva, Niebla stands beside the River Tinto, straddled by a large Roman bridge. The origins of this old town date back to the 8C BC. Its surrounding walls were built by the Almohads, a Muslim dynasty, and are among the best preserved in Spain. It is well worth strolling through the historic centre to admire the town’s churches and castles.

  • The church was built on the ruins of a mosque, keeping a few of the features (such as the orange-tree patio), which mix in with the dominant Gothic style.

    Amazingly, the church is cut in half by a street. Furthermore, the buildings it occupies contained both a mosque and a synagogue before the Reconquest.
