Niebla
: Michelin's recommendations
Situated 29km from Huelva, Niebla stands beside the River Tinto, straddled by a large Roman bridge. The origins of this old town date back to the 8C BC. Its surrounding walls were built by the Almohads, a Muslim dynasty, and are among the best preserved in Spain. It is well worth strolling through the historic centre to admire the town’s churches and castles.
Tourist attractions Niebla : Things to see and do
-
Church of St Mary of Granada
E - 21840 Niebla
The church was built on the ruins of a mosque, keeping a few of the features (such as the orange-tree patio), which mix in with the dominant Gothic style.
-
St Martin's Church
E - 21840 Niebla
Amazingly, the church is cut in half by a street. Furthermore, the buildings it occupies contained both a mosque and a synagogue before the Reconquest.
-
Los Guzmanes Alcázar or Castle
E - 21840 Niebla
The old 15C alcázar - a Moorish fortress - has kept some of the remains of an earlier Moorish castle.
