The plazas del Duque and de España are encircled by rectilinear streets lined with Baroque palaces and mansions. Through some of their massive wooden doors, studded with copper nails, you may be able to glimpse fine wrought iron grilles and cool green patios. Of particular note are the calle San Pedro (Cilla del Cabildo, Palacio de Los Marqueses de la Gomera), the Antigua Audencia (former Law Courts), the Palacio de los Cepeda, the Palacio de Puente Hermoso and fine churches (Santo Domingo and la Compañia, Iglesia de la Merced).
