The region of Vélez Blanco and Vélez Rubio lies to the north of the province of Almería, a stone’s throw from the province of Murcia. It contains some important archaeological sites decorated with cave paintings, such as the Cueva de los Letreros (the “cave of signs”). The houses of Vélez Blanco extend across the hillside at the foot of the Sierra de María, dominated by a majestic castle.
