Built in the 16C by italian artists on the request of the first marquis of Vélez. Some decorations (wooden friezes, marble) have been removed to museums. From the square keep, there are some fine views over the surrounding area.

This 22,500 ha park stretches across the communes of Vélez Rubio, Vélez Blanco, María and Chirivel. Some areas are more than 2,000 m altitude and the land is covered with thyme, holm oak, pine trees as well as wheat fields.
