Andalucia, the South of Spain, is one of the most magical touristic destinations: Mixture of cultures, diversity of landscapes, arts, culture, traditions, gastronomy...a unique experience that inspires anyone who visits it.Located in the land of meetings and fruitful cross-cultural crossbreeding, Al-Andalus was forgotten after its glory, both by Europe and the Muslim world, as a beautiful legend that had belonged to neither of the two worlds. But Al-Andalus spread its legacy in each corner of Granada: Music, poetry, enchanting monuments and charming and joyful character of its people.Inside Andalucía, surrounded by the high peaks of Sierra Nevada and lunar-like landscapes, lies the Shire of Guadix, part of the last Muslim stronghold in Granada. We invite you to discover this legend and unknown area where you can find the legacy of the Al-Andalus culture, a wild and lush nature with a shocking contrast of landscapes and an ancient and extraordinary lifestyle experience: The Cave-Houses.The troglodyte habitat has been one of the most distinctive features of the Guadix area, since ancient times. Whereas in prehistoric times men sought refuge in caves and natural shelters, the people which settled in the Guadix Shire and the valleys of Gor and Fardes carved out the rock to construct what was to become the largest concentration of Cave- Dwellings in Europe, in the city of Guadix.During the Muslim period, cave dwelling started to be seen as a form of construction which could be used for a variety of different purposes. Thus, the medieval man-made caves were used as watchtowers, shelters, granaries and permanent dwellings.Despite the fact that these underground constructions have retained much of their original character (whitewashed walls, slender chimneys, constant temperature all year round, tec.) they offer all the mod cons of any modern and ecological housing.Cuevas La Granja is a Rural Tourism Complex of 18 Holiday Cave-houses located in Benalúa, in the heart of the province of Granada.Situated in the country, in Guadix area, well known for its Cave Houses and the peculiar contrast and colorfull landscape that surrounds it: the high peaks of Sierra Nevada in the background, the red clay hills and a magnificent green valley invite the traveler to enjoy the countryside in a natural setting, different and unique.Sleeping in the heart of the earth is something magical: The contrast between lime and clay, perfect symbiosis of human work and nature, silence and temperature created by its thick walls and the original architecture of its beautiful curved shapes give the visitor a feeling of peace and relax.
