Ignace de Loyola (1491-1556), the "Soldier of God", was creator of the Company of Jesus in 1540. Near Azpeitia, by the old manor of the family of Saint Ignacio, the Jesuits built a sanctuary at the end of the 17C that became an important place of pilgrimage. Important ceremonies take place here on the day of Saint Ignacio, 31 July. St Ignacio was canonised in 1622 at the same time as Saint François-Xavier, Saint Philip Neri and Thérèse d'Avila.

Pros
Un site à découvrir sans aucune réserve : autant la basilique que la maison natale d'Ignacio de Loyola. Ici tout est beau et puissant, "physiquement" comme spirituellement. A noter : une qualité muséographique rarement atteinte et une redevance de visite dérisoire : 2€/personne... Nous voulions partager ce bonheur de découverte. Un couple de Bretons.
