The Banyoles Lake flanked on the west by the Sierra de Rocaborda, dominates a broad plain where there are woods of green and red oaks with large cultivated fields. It is more than 2,000m long and 235m wide. As well as the beauty of the countryside, it has great ecological interest as many protected species meet there. Sports fishing, canoeing and triathlon take place at Banyoles Lake which was an Olympic site during the Barcelona Games in 1992, in a quite magnificent setting.
