Plaça Reial Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

Bibendum
It was built between 1840 and 1850 on the site of the grounds of the old convent de capucins, based on Francesc D. Molina design, which draws its inspiration from the French boulevards and the castillian squares. This balanced architectural set is made up of uniform buildings with Corinthian pillars and arcades, decorated with motifs evoking navigators and explorers from the New World. The ground was tared recently, but with a great respect for the respectant les streetlamps designed by the young Gaudí - and the palmtrees. The sqaure is always lively and has become the hip place to be seen at night. The «cervecerías» (beer bars) blossom under the arcades and a stamp and coin market is held on Sunday. Make sure to visit the passeig Bacardí, which is very Parisian in appearance. There, under an iron and glass gallery you will find herbalist's shops and other usual shops. A passage leads you to the carrer de Ferran, a long shopping avenue which runs towards Sant Jaume square, and from the other side to the carrer dels Escudellers, animated by the atmostphere of the chinese quarter. The carrer d'Avinyó is located in these two streets , the brothels of which inspired Picasso to paint The ladies of Avignon (1907).
