At the foot of Montjuïc, between the Espanya Square and the sea, lies this old industrial district, in the middle of which stand the chimneys of the F.E.C.S.A thermal power station. This district is bounded by the wide Parallel Avenue, so-called because it runs exactly along the 41° 44' parallel of northern latitude. At the beginning of the 20C, the avenue was an area of theatres, cabarets and frivolous shows that was known as the Montmartre of Barcelona.
