If the upper part of Las Ramblas is devoted to sound, the Rambla de los Flors, or Rambla de Sant Josep, explodes with colour. The quintessence of the city, this narrow alley lined with plane trees taken from the Devesa Park in Gerona at the end of the 19C, threads its way between the flower stalls and the crowds of passers-by. The famous Catalan artist Ramon Casas (1866-1932), who brought Impressionism to Catalonia, immortalised it in many pictures and married a beautiful florist.
