Built between 1359 and1362, it is a large room 17 m high, with a roof with two slopes held up by six enormous semi-circular arches. Its name comes from the old Catalan word meaning the dresser in which precious crockery is kept, a meaning which was broadened to include the room where great banquets took place. According to tradition, it was here that the Catholic Monarchs received Christopher Columbus (1493) when he first returned from America.
