A university town and former capital of the island of Tenerife, La Laguna was founded by Lugo in 1496 and developed according to a grid pattern next to a “lagoon” that has since disappeared. During the Corpus Christi festival, the town’s streets are carpeted with flowers. On 14 September, a procession takes place here in honour of the Christ from the Convent of San Francisco.
