The road that climbs up to the Upper Cares Valley crosses an attractive ravine. From Poncebos, there are two footpaths that take you in for a closer look: one (3hr there and back on foot) leads to the village of Bulnes; the other, which leads to Caín (3hr 30min on foot one way), takes you along the Cares, delving between the walls of the gorge before reaching the foot of the central massif. Between Arenas and Panes, the green gorges have walls covered with moss or studded with trees. Humpback bridges and delicate footbridges span the emerald waters of the torrent.
