Guernica : Michelin's recommendations
Picasso's famous painting Guernica immortalised the drama that shattered this small town during the Civil War: on 26 April 1937, a market day, a German fighter squadron suddenly bombed the town, killing more than 2 000 people. For centuries, the Guernica oak had been one of the four places where new lords of Biscay used to come to preach sermons. The remains of this tree are now housed in a small temple.
