Pirineos Aragoneses : Michelin's recommendations
In addition to the Parque Nacional de Ordesa, the Spanish Pyrenees are home to a host of remarkable sites which take the explorer through high passes and deep valleys. Your tour might begin with the Somport Pass (1 632m) to the west and continue eastwards towards the Garganta del Escalar and the spa resort of Panticosa. You will then cross the National Park before reaching Aínsa, one of the prettiest Pyrenean villages clinging to a promontory. From there, head north towards Monte Perdido, stopping at the Defile de las Devotas and in particular the Valle de Pineta, famed for its V-shaped glacier. On the way back, the picturesque villages of the Valle de Gistaín are worth the detour. After returning to Aínsa, continue east to the 3km-long sheer rock faces of the Congosto de Ventamillo. As you leave, you can choose between continuing on towards Vielha or a trip up to the resort of Benasque, set in the lush green valley of the same name.
