The Costa Verde, one of the most beautiful parts of Spain’s coastline, owes its name to the colour of the sea, reflecting the green of the encroaching mountains. The Asturian coast runs for 220km from Llanes to Gijón and then, having rounded Cape Peñas, on to Castropol. Most of its villages (tucked away in inlets) have evolved from fishing communities into seaside resorts.
