This town has been subject to many influences over the years, most notably that of the Moors. At the foot of the ramparts of the Suda, the old Moorish fortress, lovely gardens offer clear views of the surrounding area. The shops are concentrated in Calle Major and Calle Sant Antoni. During the Aplec del Cargol (a local snail gathering festival) in mid-May, visitors can taste some of the famous snails “a la llauna”. Lérida is the centre of a fertile plain planted with fruit trees.
