Don Quixote on Rosinante and Sancho Panza on his small donkey - Cervantes' heroes, symbolising Spain, are on horseback on this wide esplanade at the beginning of the Gran Vía, among large buildings which, in their turn, symbolise Spain in the 1950s and overlook the square, notably the Madrid Tower and the España building.
