The centre of the local region (“comarca”), Olot is located in the Parque Natural de la Zona Volcánica de la Garrotxa. It has a fine agricultural and handicraft tradition and is famous for manufacturing religious images and ornamental figures, which are sold in the shops on Carrer Major. The region is also known for its Catalan cuisine, including escudella i carn d'olla (a type of casserole) and botifarra amb mongetes (charcuterie).
