This impressive group of medieval buildings dominates the Alaya Valley. The fortified section dates from 1300, and the Dominican convent from the 18C. Open to the public are: the Chapel of the Virgen del Cabello (with alabaster statues of Pedro López de Ayala and his wife); and the late-15C Church of St John the Baptist (with a spectacular 17C gilded wood reredos). A museum explains the history of the monastery, the fortifications, and the Ayala family.
