Ripoll
: Michelin's recommendations
The capital of the Ripollès is now a busy commercial centre. Its traditional shops are located in a lively pedestrianised street between Plaza Anselm Clavé and Plaza Dama. Although it is home to a number of Modernist buildings, Ripoll owes its fame mainly to the large Benedictine monastery of Santa María, founded in the 9C, which was used as a cemetery for the Counts of Barcelona, Besalú and the Cerdanya until the 12C. Its library was one of the largest in Christendom.
