Museo de San Telmo Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

This old Dominican monastery, founded in the 16C, was turned into a museum in 1932, and underwent substantial renovation in 2007 and 2011. A modern building with rectangular gaps in its façade has been added, blending into the rocky panorama of Mount Urgull. It presents a collection of Basque funerary steles of sculpted stone (15C-17C), an ethnographical section (reconstruction of a Basque interior) and rooms of paintings (a Ribera, a Greco, 19C painters). The old chapel was decorated by José María Sert with monochrome paintings illustrating the various episodes in the history of the Basque Country.
