Dominated by the cathedral apse, Plaza Mayor is the meeting place for Segovians, sitting at cafe terraces, chatting in shaded arcades or strolling around the bandstand. Among the municipal buildings are the Town Hall and the Juan Bravo Theatre. Plaza Mayor is at the end of the old Calle Real. In the Middle Ages it became known as Calle de la Cinteria (Ribbon Street), reflecting the activities of the district’s merchants and shops.
