This foundation of the Hospitaliers of St John of Jerusalem stands in a country setting by the Duero. All that remains of the 12-13C cloister is the arcades of galleries of four different orders. The church houses an antique lapidary museum.

This 16C Gothic church is large and bright. The cloister has kept three of its Romanesque galleries. The delicately re-worked capitals in a Romanesque style, are like those of Santo Domingo de Silos.

A shaded path along the Douro leads to the caves where the holy hermit once prayed. In the 18C, clinging to the rock, an octagonal chapel covered with frescos.
