Returning from exile in 1952 after the Civil War, Victorio Macho (born in 1887, leading light of the Spanish avant-garde) had this house-studio constructed by friend and architect Secundido Zuazo. The site, known as Roca Tarpeya, has a fine view over the Tagus Gorge and St Martin’s Bridge. Restored by the Real Fundacíon de Toledo, it now stages temporary exhibitions, and many of Macho’s works including an impressive recumbent statue of his brother.
