The church is famous as it houses an important picture by El Greco: The Funeral of the Count of Orgaz. This work, painted in 1586, recalls the miracle of the appearance of Saint Augustine and Saint Stephen, who came to bury the Count of Orgaz themselves. The talent of the artist is shown in the contrasts of colour and light which bring out the faces and hands and the minute detail in which he painted the various pieces of clothing.
