Cathedral
: Michelin's recommendations
Commissioned in 1580 from Juan de Herrera, the cathedral could have been one of the most beautiful buildings in classical art, had the death of the artist in 1597 not left the project in less expert hands. It did not prevent the interior, although unfinished, from being one of his major works. A Juan de Juni altarpiece, with statues that seem to converse, is set in the central apse. The cathedral also houses a museum in the apse, with a noteworthy custodial by the silversmith Juan de Arfe.
