Vielha is located in the Arán valley, on the banks of the River Garonne. Capital of the Vall and a popular tourist destination, the town boasts some fine old districts, including the Barri d’eth Cap dera Vila (the “top of the town”), home to several impressive 16C-17C mansions. The speciality of the region is the olha aranesa, a delicious casserole made from lamb, veal, bacon, black botifarra and vegetables, which can be enjoyed in the restaurants on Calle Castièro.
