Vitoria
: Michelin's recommendations
Capital of the largest Basque province, Vitoria-Gasteiz has been the seat of the autonomous Basque region (Euskadi) since 1980, and is home to regional government offices, businesses involved in the service sector, as well as industrial companies. It lies in the heart of a wide cereal-growing plateau more similar to the region of Castile than the humid hillsides of the Cantabrian coast. Vitoria is a pleasant and elegant town, the upper part of which retains a magnificent historic centre.
