This master of modern sculpture (1920-1993) devoted his life to the female form. His Mother and Child groups exude rotundity and joy. His Thinkers epitomise grace, while his Ciclista explores the Cubism of Picasso (the artists knew each other). Idolo revisits the hieratic style of Cycladic sculpture, while his 1958 gouache Mother and Child evokes Cocteau’s poetry. The last item in the exhibition, Impulse, reduces the body to a stylised suggestion of pure and sensual movement.
