This gorge is so narrow that the sun seldom penetrates its depths. The stream below passes first through a bed of limestone before going through lamellar schist and granite. The road cuts down the western slope by long ramps and tight hairpin bends from a mountain cirque, home to the spa resort of Panticosa.
