Nestled in a deep, lush valley, the magnificent Cistercian complex of Santes Creus (Holy Cross) extends along the left bank of the Gaià river. Since its foundation around 1150, the monastery has been an important political and cultural centre, as witnessed by its superb library. Today, it is the venue for a season of classical music. Highlights of the visit include the chapter house, the church, with its royal tombs, and a stroll through the Gothic cloisters, one of the jewels of the monastery.
