Monastery : Michelin's recommendations

Bibendum
The Cistercian monastery between Santo Domingo de la Calzada and Nájera was founded in 1170 and is still home to nuns of the order of St Bernard of Clairvaux. The 16C church and the chapterhouse are extraordinary examples of the purity of Cistercian art. The simplicity of the place, barely disturbed by discreet floral decoration, exudes a great sense of spirituality. A small museum presenting the Cistercian Order and its centres in Spain has been set up in the former storeroom.
