This monastery, renowned for its Gregorian chants, takes its name from the monk Dominic who, in the 11C, restored the buildings of an old Visigoth abbey (6C-8C). Abandoned by the monks in 1835, it became a refuge for French Benedictines from Poitou. The cloister, superbly balanced and colourful, is one of the finest in Spain. The eight bas-reliefs in the corners of the galleries, along with the capitals, are masterpieces of Romanesque sculpture.
