In the 9C there were 13 hermitages here, sited in the most far-flung parts of the mountain and organised into three separate groups with names derived from the Bible and the Desert Fathers – Tabor, Thebes and Thebaid – which survived until the Napoleon period (early 19C). Although abandoned, this is a fine spot for walking on account of the site’s beauty and the beautiful views.
