Bibendum
The collections of the Fine Art Museum are housed in two buildings. In the older one, you will see the Italian primitives of the 13 to the 15C, including a Virgin with Child by Fra Angelico, the Swiss primitives of the 15 and 16C, canvases from the workshop of the German Cranach the Elder, works by Berne artists of the 17C and Swiss painters of the 19C including Caspar Wolf and Karl Stauffer. The new building exhibits the collection of Paul Klee (1879-1940) which contains over 2,000 drawings, together with paintings, gouaches and watercolours, following the development of the artist's style. The works of Ferdinand Hodler (1853-1918), a native of Berne, some large allegorical compositions and others landscapes, occupy a special place. After this you can admire the canvases of Delacroix, the principal impressionists (Monet, Manet, Sisley, etc.), Bonnard and Utrillo, the expressionist painters (Chagall, Modigliani, etc.) and cubists (Gris, Léger, Picasso, etc.). Finally, five rooms in the museum are devoted to temporary exhibitions based around contemporary artists.
