Château-d'Oex (pronounced Châteaudait), a typical Vaud Alps family resort, is the Euhaut area's main town, with chalets and hotels dotted in the wooded foothills of the Gummfluh and Vanils. This area once belonged to the county of Gruyère, then supported the Bern Protestant cause in the 16C, before becoming part of the newly-created Vaud canton.
