The Cordeliers arrived in Fribourg in 1256 and had this convent built which soon became a focal point of the town, receiving prestigious guests and housing the first library. In the 18C, the buildings were completely transformed. The church is today famous for its magnificent retable completed in Soleure and Basle in 1480 and hung above the main altar.
