Inaugurated in 1926 but only open to the public since 2001, the funicular makes the vertiginous ascent up to Gelmer Lake (Gelmersee), wedged in the mountains, in just ten minutes. Once at the summit, you can either walk round the lake (1hr45min) or head for the Gelmer Refuge (Gelmerhütte, 2hr).
