The little town of Morges is in a major Vaud wine-producing region, on a pleasant spot facing Lake Geneva across from the Savoy Alps. Its port, now a marina, was built between 1691 and 1696 to plans drawn up by Baron Duquesne d'Aubonne, son of the famous admiral. It handled a great deal of trade before the railway's development.
